Leadership Team

Martyn Atterton, President

Martyn was brought up in Coventry England in the 1960s and 70s. Coventry was the heart of the UK Motor industry with Jaguar, Triumph, Humber, Singer, Alvis and others, and those years saw tremendous upheaval and some great cars as the factories merged and British Leyland was formed. While MG was not a Coventry brand, it was certainly well loved and was a leader in the innovation of British Sports cars. Martyn's love of British Sports cars was born in those days, and it helped having a Father who was a great precision engineer, heavily involved in the industry.

On leaving University of Hull in 1976 with a degree in Physics, Martyn's first job was as a teacher, but he quickly embraced the growing computer industry with Apple, Commodore and IBM, before joining Digital (which became Compaq) in 1998. After a 3 year spell at the European HQ in Munich, Compaq moved Martyn to Houston, and following their merger with HP, Martyn joined Dell and finally moved to Round Rock in 2011.

Martyn has restored two Jaguars, a 1995 XJ12 and a 1993 XJS, before his love of the MGB resulted in him restoring his first Roadster (a blue 1979 model) in 2021. He runs that beautiful car as often as he can and is now restoring a 1994 model under the name of his retirement business, http://www.restobrit.com.

Martyn is proud to be taking on the role of President of this wonderful club, and hopes that he can be of real service in helping to take it to even greater heights this year. He can be contacted on cellphone at 832-704-2031, or by email at martynatterton@yahoo.com. He would welcome your calls or mails at any time.

Joe Vining, Vice President

A native Texan, Joe Vining has been around cars his entire life.  Joe moved to Austin for college and has lived in the Austin area ever since.  Active in several sports car clubs in the Austin area, he now owns a 1961 black Sebring-style MGA and a 1971 red MGB.  He served as director of planning for the City of Round Rock and vice-president of the Round Rock Chamber of Commerce before retiring and beginning his own consulting business.  He and his wife, Karla, live in Round Rock.

Scott Hardy, Treasurer & Membership Coordinator

My experience with MGs started as a teenager when I somehow convinced my mom to dump the Rambler and buy a 1967 MBG GT, which not coincidentally coincided with my learning the skills of a garage mechanic. Born and raised in Cleveland, I escaped to Canada for 40 years, where I became a pipeline engineer and raised a family in the foothills of Alberta. My wife Trish and I fled the deep freeze in Calgary and moved to Texas in 2019 with our teal blue 1972 MGB, which we drove down from Canada in an epic eight-day adventure. We are now domiciled in Dripping Springs with our faithful spaniel Bentley, where we take advantage of the fine driving roads in Hill Country to chase after goats.

Denise Whiteside, Secretary

Denise Whiteside has, along with her husband Bruce, been a member of CCMGC for 16 years, since 2007. She is a native Texan, born and raised in the D/FW area, and a Business graduate of TCU (Go Horned Frogs!). She and Bruce transferred to Leander in 2000. They have two grown children, both Engineers. Their son Carter and daughter-in-law Kristin live in Texarkana, and their daughter Haley lives in Lago Vista. Denise spent several years serving as Board Secretary on High School athletic and drill team Booster Clubs. She also served as Board Secretary for the Round Rock Area Aggie Moms Club while Haley was at Texas A&M. Denise has worked as a Compensation Specialist for Kelly-Moore Paint Company since 2001.

Bev Van Note, MG Oil Drips Editor

Although she grew up with a dad who loved cars, and although she developed an early passion for British literature, Bev’s romance with little British cars started at the same time she started dating Eric Van Note in college. The two dated in Eric’s black 1976 MGB and moved around Texas in it during the early years of their marriage, until it was totaled by a hit from behind in Abilene in 1990. It wasn’t long until Eric brought home a junked 1972 MGB, and after it sat in the garage for too many years to mention, Bev encouraged him to restore it. And that’s how the two came to be involved with CCMGC in 2008. She’s attended and occasionally assisted with many club events over the past 15 years.

After recently retiring from teaching college English with a specialization in (you guessed it) English Renaissance literature, Bev has volunteered her writing and editing skills for the club web site. She also spends time volunteering at church and at the library, as well as devoting time to two grown children and five grandchildren.

Craig Burchsted, Regalia Manager

My avatar is one of my previous British Cars - what is popularly known as the “World’s Largest Mini”. My background with LBC’s started immediately post-natal with my trip home from the hospital in my mother’s arms in the passenger seat of an MG-TD. Growing up in Dallas, TX, we were always the family who drove those “strange little foreign cars”: MGs, TRs, Austin-Healeys, Minis and lots of Volvos thrown in for good measure. I went to UT and spent numerous early mornings trying to set speed records for the “under 1000cc class” in my clapped-out A-H Sprite. My wife Sandy and I returned here 10 years ago after spending many years in Houston. Our only MG at present is Natalie, a 1963 Arnolt-MG Bertone Coupe that was formerly the property of Stanley “Wacky” Arnolt. Believing that the CCMGC needed a way to display our affiliation, my sole accomplishment as Regalia Manager has been the creation and production of our Grille Badges. Most of this job is essentially on auto-pilot, which is perfectly suited to my particular skill set!

Dave Braun, Technical Guru

Dave Braun has been playing unsupervised with LBCs since his college days at the University of Minnesota where he earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering. He owned two Spitfires before beginning the restoration of his 1952 MG TD in 1980. Since then, he has restored a 1970 MGB and is knee deep in another Spitfire. Dave has written scores of technical columns for the MG Driver, the magazine of NAMGBR, for which he was awarded the inaugural "MGB Driver Best Contributing Author Award" in 2012. He has served as the Technical Coordinator for the NAMGBR since 2016 and has presented many seminars at GOFs, NAMGBR and other major MG gatherings. Dave lives with his wife Diane and their dog Dakota in Georgetown, Texas, where he consults as an airplane engine designer and is delegated by the FAA to make approvals on their behalf.
